Ribblehead Viaduct and Information Board. Ribblehead Viaduct with twenty four arches in North Yorkshire is undoubtedly the most impressive structure on the Settle-Carlisle Railway. Hundreds of railway builders (“navvies”) lost their lives building the line, The Viaduct was begun before July 1870 and finished in late 1874. The first train ran on 1 May 1876. It is a Grade II listed structure and was designed by John Crosby. Photographed 4th October 2021.
